Can an ASUS RT-AX86U Pro replace my ISP router?

The RT-AX86U Pro supports PPPoE and its manual exposes DHCP Client Identifier / Option 61, which makes it useful for some provider-specific Ethernet handoffs. It remains an Ethernet router with no built-in VDSL modem.

Why exact model matters

Hlonix does not generalize this Option 61 verdict to every ASUS router. It is tied to the RT-AX86U Pro manual currently cited.

Where it can go direct

Ethernet handoffs using DHCP or PPPoE are the natural cases. Sky Full Fibre may also be possible where the line requires Option 61, but Hlonix still asks for line-level confirmation.

Where it cannot go direct

A DSL wall socket still needs a modem. For UK FTTC or Australian FTTN/FTTB, the RT-AX86U Pro needs a separate VDSL modem or the provider box in front.
