Router evidence
Can Google Nest Wifi Pro replace my ISP router?
Nest Wifi Pro is an Ethernet mesh router that uses DHCP by default and supports PPPoE WAN credentials. The main caveats are provider VLAN requirements and bridge mode: Google documents that some VLAN-tagged services need extra equipment, and a primary Nest Wifi device cannot stay in bridge mode while operating a multi-node mesh.
Simple Ethernet handoffs are the best case
A modem, ONT, NTD or Fiber Jack that already presents Ethernet and uses DHCP—or PPPoE without an unsupported VLAN requirement—is the cleanest Nest Wifi Pro topology.
VLAN is the important caveat
Google's current help says some VLAN-tagged broadband connections require additional equipment. Australia/New Zealand guidance is also tag-value specific, so Hlonix does not mark Nest Wifi Pro as a generic arbitrary-VLAN router.
Bridge mode is not normal mesh AP mode
Google documents bridge mode only for a single Wifi device. If the primary device is bridged, multi-node mesh functionality and several router features are lost.
DSL still needs a modem
Nest Wifi Pro has Ethernet WAN, not a VDSL modem. FTTN/FTTB/FTTC profiles that terminate DSL at the premises need separate DSL termination.
