Using your own router in Germany

Germany's router-freedom market still has very different access paths. Deutsche Telekom FTTH can use suitable own fibre/router hardware, while Vodafone Cable commonly keeps the Vodafone Station as the DOCSIS modem and uses Bridge/Modem Mode for a third-party router.

Telekom fibre hardware depends on the handoff

Telekom supports routers with integrated fibre modems, SFP modules or an external fibre modem. If you use a separate fibre modem/ONT and an Ethernet router, the current Telekom-hosted support guidance confirms PPPoE over VLAN 7.

Vodafone Cable is a different class of problem

The Vodafone Station terminates DOCSIS. In Modem/Bridge Mode it passes the public IP to LAN 1 while disabling normal router/Wi-Fi functions, so your own router takes over the home network.

Why Hlonix keeps Telekom at medium confidence

The hardware compatibility page is official Telekom documentation, while the explicit VLAN 7 detail used here is from Telekom-hosted community material that includes confirmation from the Telekom support team.
