Can I use my own router with Telstra?
Yes on compatible hardware. Telstra publishes BYO settings: IPoE/DHCP/Automatic with VLAN tagging off for current nbn/Opticomm profiles. The hardware requirement changes by connection type: FTTN/FTTB needs VDSL2 in the BYO modem-router; FTTP/HFC/FTTC/Fixed Wireless use an Ethernet handoff from a connection box.
Connection type comes before router brand
On FTTC the nbn connection box terminates the DSL side, so an Ethernet router can sit behind it. On FTTN/FTTB the BYO device itself connects to the phone/DSL socket and must contain the VDSL2 modem.
Telstra documents additional VDSL parameters
For FTTN/FTTB, Telstra lists SRA, Profile 17a, G.Vector and G.INP. That is why Hlonix checks more than a generic 'has DSL port' box.
Phone service can change the equipment decision
Telstra distinguishes Internet Only plans from plans with home phone features. If phone service matters, verify the plan-specific equipment path rather than assuming internet-only BYO guidance covers it.
