Can I replace the AT&T Fiber gateway with my own router?

For the supported Hlonix path, no: keep the AT&T gateway and place your router behind it using IP Passthrough. AT&T documents the gateway as the equipment that provides the connection to AT&T Fiber and separately documents IP Passthrough for third-party networking equipment.

What IP Passthrough changes

The AT&T gateway still terminates the provider service, but one downstream device receives the gateway's WAN address. Your own router can then own the home LAN, Wi-Fi, firewall rules and port forwards.

Why this is not bridge mode

AT&T describes IP Passthrough as an alternative to bridged mode. The gateway remains active, so Hlonix labels this as 'gateway stays' instead of pretending it is a direct ONT-to-router replacement.

Before changing the setup

Record the current gateway configuration, connect your router by Ethernet, use the documented passthrough mode for its WAN MAC address, and keep the AT&T gateway accessible for diagnostics.
