Can I use my own router with Spectrum?

Yes. Spectrum's self-install flow separates the cable modem from the Wi-Fi router: coax feeds the modem, then Ethernet runs from the modem to the Internet/WAN port on the router.

The cable modem is not optional

A normal Ethernet router cannot terminate the coax cable. The modem handles the provider-facing DOCSIS connection; your router handles the home network behind it.

Why this matters for mesh buyers

eero, Deco and ASUS Ethernet routers can be perfectly useful on Spectrum without being cable modems. The right topology is modem → router, not coax → router.

After a hardware swap

Power-cycle order and service activation can matter when moving a router or modem. Follow Spectrum's current activation flow rather than diagnosing every offline state as router incompatibility.
